Prayers for the deceased:

SOOR Practice

At MBC, we have been maintaining a weekly SOOR practice for many years, where prayers and mantras are offered to the deceased. In Buddhism, prayers are offered for seven weeks after a person’s passing. This period is the time that a person’s consciousness may spend in the bardo (intermediate state) before finding a new rebirth. Food substance is also burnt on the fire and offered to the deceased. The practice is very supportive to the mind of the deceased, and participating in the prayers can be equally supportive for those grieving the loss of a loved one.

Please feel free to join the SOOR practice on Mondays at 5pm. Participating in the practice is a very meaningful experience. Our members will make you feel very welcome and show you how you can participate in the ritual.

If you cannot attend in person, names of the deceased can also be emailed to us. Please include the date of passing, and we will perform the prayers for those individuals for the full seven weeks of the intermediate period. Deceased pets are also welcome!
